Producer Information

Château La Tour Figeac is a right-bank Bordeaux wine estate in Saint-Émilion. It makes a Merlot-dominant red blended with Cabernet Franc and was rated a Grand Cru Classé estate in the Classification of Saint-Émilion. The property was once part of the neighboring Château Figeac that covered as much as 200 hectares (500 acres) in the 19th century. In the late 1800s, Figeac began selling off parcels of land and in 1879 sold what would become La Tour Figeac to the Cobière family. In 1881, La Tour Figeac was divided in half with the second plot of the estate becoming La Tour du Pin Figeac – which has since been divided in two. Château Figeac itself remains one of the largest estates in Saint-Émilion. Today, Château La Tour Figeac covers 14.5 hectares (36 acres) on the border of Saint-Émilion and Pomerol. It is planted roughly 60-percent to Merlot and 40-percent to Cabernet Franc and farmed using biodynamic practices. Notable wine consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt works with the estate, while his wife Christine is the director. La Tour Figeac neighbors Château Figeac and Château Cheval Blanc. The Grand Vin is fermented in stainless steel tanks as well as wooden vats and is barrel-aged in approximately 50-percent new oak, depending on the vintage. The estate’s second wine, the L’Esquisse de La Tour Figeac is also a Merlot-dominant blend with Cabernet Fran. In 2000, it was released as Millésime.
